GREAT NEWS! Today, the Palm Beach Post editorial board announced their endorsement for my campaign for State Representative. I wanted to share this news with you and thank the Post editorial board for recognizing my message, passion and goals for District 83. While the endorsement will help our effort to build name recognition and momentum, it does not make my job of getting elected any easier. In fact, it has motivated me even more to turn out voters and ensure a strong GOTV effort for the November 2nd election.
I NEED YOUR HELP NOW! Whether you prefer to knock on doors, make calls from our campaign office or from home, talk to your friends, neighbors and colleagues or send a donation our way to help us in getting the message out to others, now is the time to commit. The election is three weeks from tomorrow. Absentee ballots are available and early voting starts next Monday, October 18.
Let’s continue building the momentum and working hard to send a REAL small business owner to Tallahassee!
Here’s what the Palm Beach Post had to say:
“For a first-time candidate, Democrat Mark Marciano has unusually clear, well-reasoned positions on key issues facing state legislators. The Post endorses Dr. Marciano as an independent, well-informed voice for House District 83.
Dr. Marciano, an optometrist, opposes Medicaid “reform” that forces patients into HMOs. He opposes efforts to weaken growth-management laws but doesn’t support the overreaching Hometown Democracy constitutional amendment. In this Republican-leaning northern Palm Beach County district, Dr. Marciano cannot take bedrock Democratic positions. But the Republican, Palm Beach Kennel Club President Pat Rooney, admits that he takes his cue from the ever-rigid House Republican leadership. He favored the teacher merit-pay bill and wouldn’t reject the idea of deregulating property insurance.
Mr. Rooney portrays himself as someone who knows how to run a small business, but Dr. Marciano says he is the true small-business owner, running a doctor’s office with the retail component of selling eyeglasses. Aside from running the kennel club, Mr. Rooney oversees the family restaurant businesses. “He’s not a small-business person,” Dr. Marciano said. “He’s large.”
Dr. Marciano opposes the expansion of gambling in Palm Beach County. While Mr. Rooney says he would abstain from voting on the issue, he supports expansion. He says he would oppose Vegas-style resorts in Florida, even though his family’s property on Belvedere Road outside of West Palm Beach could benefit. In 1994, however, his company partnered with Boyd Gaming, a Vegas casino operator, in anticipation of full-scale casino gambling statewide, a proposal voters rejected.
While Dr. Marciano has not matched Mr. Rooney’s $190,000 campaign account, he has raised $134,000. He has prepared himself for the job much more than Mr. Rooney. District residents would benefit from his insight, independence and grasp of the issues.”

To our volunteers, supporters and well-wishers, thanks for your effort so far, let’s win this thing!
Sincerely,
Dr. Mark Marciano
